Commercial intrusion alarm system installation

Know when someone is in the building who should not be. Wired and wireless alarm systems for offices, shops, warehouses and sites under construction.

What an intrusion alarm installation covers

This is the physical alarm: detectors on doors, windows and rooms, a panel, keypads and sirens. We lay out the zones so that staff can arm one area while another stays open, and so that an alert tells you exactly where to look.

Systems are installed ready to connect to a monitoring station of your choice. Linked to your cameras, an alarm can be checked on video before anyone is sent to the site.

False alarms are what make people stop arming a system. Most of them come from the layout: a detector facing a heater or a dock door, an entry delay too short for the route staff really take. We design against that, and we go through the arming routine with the people who open and close the building.

  • DetectionMotion detectors, door and window contacts and glass-break sensors, chosen for each space.
  • Panels and keypadsArming by code, card or phone, with separate areas and schedules.
  • Wired or wirelessWireless devices where pulling cable is impractical, wired where it makes sense.
  • NotificationsAlerts to the phones of the people responsible, and a connection for a monitoring station.
  • IntegrationAlarm events tied to video surveillance and access control.

Where intrusion alarms are installed

  • Offices and professional suites
  • Retail and restaurants after hours
  • Warehouses and storage areas
  • Construction sites and vacant premises

When an alarm system is called for

  • A break-in, or an attempt, showed that nothing was watching the building at night
  • An insurer or a head office asks for an alarm connected to a monitoring station
  • The existing panel is old, everyone shares one code and nobody knows who armed it
  • A business moves into premises where the previous occupant left an alarm
  • A construction site or a vacant building needs temporary protection without permanent wiring
  • One part of the building must stay armed while another part is open

Often installed together with

Industries we install it for

The alarm can be ordered alone. Linked to cameras and access control, it can be armed by the last card out and verified on video.

How an alarm project runs

For one commercial unit or for a building with several tenants.

  1. Walk-through

We go through the premises with the person who opens and closes: the entry routes, the doors and windows that can be forced, the areas of value, what moves at night (heating, fans, hanging signs) and who needs a code.

  2. Design and quote

A list of zones by door and by room, the detector chosen for each, the panel and keypads, the sirens, the way the system reports to a monitoring station, and the areas that arm separately.

  3. Installation

Detectors, contacts, keypads and sirens are installed, then wired or enrolled to the panel; the panel is placed out of reach, and backup power keeps the system running through an outage.

  4. Testing and handover

Every zone is tripped and confirmed at the panel and, if the system is monitored, at the station. Codes are issued per person, and staff practise arming, disarming and what to do when the siren sounds.

What you receive

After handover, the system is run by people who were not there during the installation.

  • Zone listEach zone with its name, location and type, as it appears on the keypad and at the monitoring station.
  • User codesIndividual codes or credentials, with the master code handed to the owner.
  • Monitoring detailsThe information your monitoring provider needs, and confirmation that signals were received during testing.
  • InstructionA session for the people who open and close, and a short written routine to keep by the keypad.

Questions about commercial alarm systems

Is this the same as network intrusion detection?

No. This page covers the physical alarm that detects people entering a building. Network intrusion detection and prevention (IDS/IPS) is a separate service, described under Network security.

Do you provide the monitoring station service?

We install the system so that it is ready to be monitored and we help you connect it to the monitoring provider you choose.

How do you keep false alarms down?

By design and by habit. Detectors are chosen and placed for the room, entry delays fit the real route to the keypad, and each person has a code and knows the routine. Where cameras are linked, an alarm can be verified on video before anyone is sent.

Does the alarm work if the power or the Internet goes down?

The panel has a battery that carries it through an outage. For communication, a system can report over the network, over the cellular network or over both, so that losing one path does not silence it.

Can we arm and disarm from a phone?

Yes, where the panel supports it. An app shows the state of each area, lets authorised people arm and disarm, and keeps a history of who did what. Keypads remain for daily use.

Can you take over the alarm left by the previous occupant?

Often. We check the panel, the detectors and the wiring, reset the codes and the communication, and tell you which parts are worth keeping. Where the panel is locked or obsolete, we say so and quote a replacement that reuses the sound wiring and detectors.
