Security, network and communication systems for schools, colleges and daycare centres
A school has one door that must open for children, parents and staff, and stay closed to everyone else, and a network that has to carry a full classroom at once. Vega Security installs both, in the weeks when the building is empty.

A front door for children and parents, and for no one else
During the day, the question is who comes in: a parent at the wrong hour, a delivery, a stranger. In the evening, the gym is lent to a sports club and the keys travel. At night and during the holidays the building is empty, and the yard is not.
We work for the people who run the establishment: the principal or the administrator of a school, the material resources or IT department of a school board or a school service centre, the director of a college or a training centre, and the director of a daycare centre.
- A secretary who cannot see the doorVisitors ring, the door is released, and nobody saw who came in.
- Keys held by people who left years agoStaff, substitutes, evening groups and contractors were all given a key at some point.
- Wi-Fi that fails when the class logs inOne access point in the corridor serves three rooms, and thirty devices connect at the same minute.
- An empty building every eveningBreak-ins and vandalism happen at night, at weekends and in the summer, in a yard that is open to the street.
- One summer to do the workAnything that makes noise or closes a corridor has to fit between the last day of class and the first.
Systems for the classrooms, the corridors and the schoolyard
A daycare centre may need only the door and a few cameras. A school board may need the same standard in every school. Each system is quoted separately.
- Intercom and phone entryA video station at the main entrance: the visitor calls, the secretary sees who it is and releases the door from the desk. A second station can serve the daycare or the delivery door.
- Access controlStaff open the doors with a card instead of a key. Evening groups get the gym entrance only, at their hours only, and a lost card is cancelled without changing a lock.
- Electronic locks and door hardwareAn electric strike that keeps the main entrance locked during class hours, exit devices that let pupils and staff out freely at the other doors, and a switch on each one so that a propped door is noticed.
- Video surveillanceCameras at the entrances, in the corridors, the parking and the yard, placed with the administration, with recording that lets you find an event from the weekend on Monday morning.
- Intrusion alarmSeparate areas, so that the classrooms are armed while the gym is in use, with a code for each holder and alerts to the people on call.
- Enterprise Wi-FiAn access point plan made for full classrooms rather than for corridors, with capacity for a whole class at once and separate networks for students, staff and guests.
- Structured cabling and LANOutlets for the access points, the classroom displays, the phones and the cameras, and telecom rooms that are tidied, labelled and documented.
- Fibre optic installation and cablingA backbone between the wings and the telecom rooms of a large school, and the links between the pavilions of a campus.
- Long-range wireless bridgesA radio link to a portable classroom, an annex or a sports building, without a trench across the yard.
- Commercial audio and videoAnnouncements to the whole school or to one zone, sound for the gym and the auditorium, and displays in the classrooms and the meeting rooms.
- Network security (IDS/IPS)A firewall and separate zones, so that student devices cannot reach the administration's systems, the cameras or the door controllers.
- Security and network auditsThe same inventory of doors, cameras, cabling and coverage in each school, so that several buildings can be compared and the work put in order of priority.
The school calendar sets the schedule
Design and ordering happen during the school year, so that installation fits into the summer or a break.
- A visit during the school year
We see the entrance at arrival time, the secretary's desk, the corridors between classes and the yard, and we meet the caretaker who knows where the cables run.
- Design and price before the budget is set
A scope with the equipment named, by school and by system, in a form that suits your approval process. We can also price from your own specification.
- Installation while the building is empty
Cabling, doors and devices are installed during the summer, a break or the evenings, with the caretaker informed of what is open each day.
- Ready before the first day of class
The systems are tested, the cards are issued, and the secretary, the administration and the caretaker are shown what they will use every day.

What stays with the school and its technical team
- The list of doors and their schedules, including the evening and weekend groups
- The cards issued, by holder, with the way to add or cancel one
- The camera plan and the user accounts, limited to the people the administration names
- Wi-Fi coverage maps and the access point plan
- A one-page guide for the secretary: answer the door, release it, call for help

Questions from school and daycare administrators
Can the work be done during the summer only?
Yes, when the design and the order are settled in the spring. Equipment is received before the end of classes, and the installation is planned week by week with the caretaker so that the cleaning and the other summer work can go on.
How do we let an evening group in without giving out a key?
Each group receives cards that open one entrance, on its days and at its hours. Outside those hours the cards do nothing, and the history shows when the door was used.
Where are cameras placed in a school?
At entrances, in corridors and common areas, outdoors and in the parking. Not in washrooms or changing rooms. The positions and the list of people allowed to view the footage are set with the administration.
Can you price the work from our tender documents?
Yes. Send us the specification and the drawings. We answer what is asked, name the equipment and state what is included, and we raise questions in writing before the deadline if something is unclear.
We are a single daycare centre. Is that too small for you?
No. A video intercom at the door, a few cards for the staff and two or three cameras are a normal job. The client is the organisation that runs the centre.
Why does the Wi-Fi fail in class when it works in the corridor?
Because it was laid out for coverage, not for capacity. A full class connects at the same moment, through walls, to an access point that also serves the neighbouring rooms. The survey measures this, and the design places the access points where the students are.
