Low-voltage and security systems for general contractors and new building development

Vega Security delivers every low-voltage and security system of a new commercial or multi-residential building as one subcontractor: one scope, one schedule and one team, from the drawings to occupancy and after.

One subcontractor for every low-voltage scope

On a new building the low-voltage work is often split between several small subcontracts: cameras with one company, door access with another, cabling with a third. Each has its own scope, its own schedule and its own idea of where the conduit should go, and the gaps between them land on the general contractor's desk.

Vega Security takes these scopes as a single package. The systems are designed together, share pathways, rooms and network where they can, and are installed and commissioned by one team that answers to one project manager.

  • One contract, one contactA single scope and a single project manager for all the low-voltage systems, instead of a separate subcontractor for each.
  • Design-assist from the drawingsWe review the architectural and electrical drawings early and bring pathways, rooms, power and door preparation into them, before they cost money on site.
  • Coordination with the other tradesWork sequenced with the electrician, the door and hardware supplier, the elevator contractor and the finishing trades, and followed at the site meetings.
  • Built to your construction scheduleRough-in, cable pulls, termination and commissioning planned around your milestones, floor by floor.
  • A documented handoverAs-built drawings, test results, labelling and training for the people who will run the building.

Lifetime warranty under an exclusive Internet service agreement

For multi-residential buildings

When Vega Security, together with Vega Telecom, is the exclusive Internet service provider for the residents of a multi-residential building, every system we install is covered by a lifetime warranty, in force for as long as that Internet service agreement is.

Tell us about your project

From the drawings to occupancy

The low-voltage work follows the phases of your project. At each one you know what we are doing and what we need from the site.

  1. Design-assist and pre-construction

We work from your drawings and specifications: device locations, pathways, telecom rooms, power and door hardware. Questions are raised on paper, and the scope and the price cover all the systems.

  2. Rough-in

Conduit, back boxes, sleeves and cable tray are placed or checked with the electrician before the walls and ceilings close.

  3. Cable pull

Copper and fibre are pulled, supported and labelled as soon as the pathways are ready, in step with the progress of the floors.

  4. Termination and installation

Racks, panels and cables are terminated; cameras, readers, intercom stations, access points and the other devices are mounted as the finishes allow.

  5. Commissioning

Each system is powered up, configured and tested: cable links, camera views, door schedules, wireless coverage. Deficiencies are corrected before handover.

  6. As-built documentation, handover and training

You receive the as-built drawings, the test results and the equipment lists for your closeout documents, and the operators of the building are shown how to use each system.

Common questions

Can Vega Security take all the low-voltage scopes of a building as one subcontract?

Yes. Video surveillance, access control, intercom, intrusion alarm, structured cabling, fibre optics, Wi-Fi, cellular signal boosting, audio and video, and water leak detection can be covered by one scope and one contract. You can also award us only some of them.

At what stage of the project should we bring you in?

As early as the drawings. During design we can still move a pathway, size a telecom room or prepare a door frame on paper. The same changes after the walls are closed cost far more and delay the other trades.

Can you price the work from drawings and specifications?

Yes. Send us the architectural and electrical drawings and the specification sections that concern the low-voltage systems. We reply with questions if we have any, then with a quote that names the equipment and states what is and is not included.

How do you coordinate with the electrician and the other trades?

We agree early on who supplies and installs the conduit, the boxes, the power and the door hardware, and we sequence our work with the construction schedule. Our project manager follows the site meetings and answers questions from the field.

What do we receive at handover?

The as-built drawings, the cable test results, the equipment lists, the labelling and the settings of each system, together with training for the people who will operate the building.

Do you stay involved once the building is occupied?

Yes. The team that installed the systems maintains them, answers service calls and makes the additions and changes that come with new tenants.
