Commercial intercom and phone entry system installation

Visitors find the right name, the right person answers, and the door opens. Video intercoms and entry panels for multi-tenant buildings, offices and gated sites.

What an intercom installation covers

The entry panel is the first thing a visitor touches, and the thing tenants complain about first when it fails. We install panels with a clear directory and a good camera, and we make sure calls reach people where they are: a desk station, a reception phone or a smartphone.

An intercom rarely stands alone. We tie it to access control so the same panel reads cards, and to the cameras so every call at the door has a recording behind it.

Many buildings still have a telephone entry system that depends on an old phone line or on wiring to every suite. Replacing it is often the moment to move to a panel that calls tenants on their own phones, which takes the indoor stations and most of the wiring out of the project.

  • Entry panels with directoryTouchscreen panels with a searchable tenant directory, or simple call-button stations for a single occupant.
  • Video callingThe person answering sees the visitor before opening, on an indoor station or on a phone.
  • Smartphone answeringCalls forwarded to a mobile app, so the door can be answered away from the desk.
  • Gates and parking entrancesWeatherproof stations for vehicle gates, garages and delivery doors.
  • Directory managementNames and call routing updated without a site visit when tenants change.

Where intercom systems are installed

  • Multi-tenant office buildings
  • Main entrances and reception desks
  • Parking and delivery gates
  • After-hours entrances

Typical situations

  • The old entry panel dials through a phone line that is being retired or costs too much to keep
  • Tenants change often and each directory update means a service call
  • Deliveries arrive when nobody is at the reception desk
  • A vehicle gate or a garage door needs a way to call someone and be let in
  • A new building needs the entry panel, the door hardware and the access control specified together
  • The building manager wants a record, with video, of who was let in at the main door

Often installed together with

Industries we install it for

An intercom can be ordered alone, as a replacement for an existing panel. In a new building it is designed with the access control and the cameras at the same doors.

How an intercom project runs

A replacement in an occupied building and a new entrance follow the same four steps.

  1. Entrance survey

We look at each entrance: where the panel can be mounted and still be read in sunlight and at night, what the existing wiring is, how the door is locked, and whether network and power are there. We ask who answers calls and how tenants are listed.

  2. Design and quote

The quote names the panel for each entrance, how calls are answered, how the door is released, and the cabling and network needed. Where the existing wiring can be reused, we say so.

  3. Installation

Panels are mounted and sealed, connected to the door hardware and to the network, and the old system is removed. In an occupied building the entrance stays in service and the changeover is done at an announced time.

  4. Directory and handover

The directory is loaded, each call route is tested from the panel to the person, and door release is tested from every way of answering. The building manager is shown how to update names and codes.

What you receive with the intercom

An entry system is judged on a Monday morning, when a tenant has just changed. The handover is prepared for that day.

  • Directory as loadedThe list of names, units and call destinations as programmed, ready to be updated.
  • Management accessAn administrator account for the building manager, and the credentials of the system handed to the owner.
  • As-installed recordEach panel with its wiring, its door release, its network port and its power source.
  • Short guide for occupantsSimple instructions the manager can pass on to tenants: how a call arrives and how to open the door.

Questions about commercial intercoms

Can the intercom also open the door with a card or a code?

Yes. Most entry panels we install include a card reader or a keypad, and can be managed with the rest of the access control system.

What happens to the directory when a tenant moves out?

The directory is edited in software. Depending on the system, your building manager makes the change, or we do it remotely on request.

Do tenants need an indoor station or a landline?

Not necessarily. Many current systems call a mobile app or an ordinary phone number, so that no indoor station and no wiring to each suite are needed. Indoor stations remain available where an occupant prefers a fixed device, at a reception desk for example.

Can the old intercom wiring be reused?

Sometimes. Some systems are made to run on the two-wire cabling of older intercoms, which avoids pulling new cable through finished walls. We test the wiring and tell you whether it is reliable enough to keep.

How do couriers and deliveries get in?

In the way you choose: a call to the reception or to the manager, a delivery code valid at certain hours, or access limited to a vestibule or a parcel room. Each use is recorded and, with a camera at the door, there is an image to go with it.

Does the panel work outdoors in winter?

Outdoor panels are selected for the temperatures and the exposure of the site, then mounted and sealed accordingly. Where an entrance is fully exposed, we tell you what the manufacturer's rating allows before recommending a model.
